2005
The company is founded
- 2005Jason Hoffman establishes Hoffman Tunnels in Seattle, Washington, with a small team of tunnel and geotechnical engineers.
- 2005First contract awarded: temporary works and excavation support design for a deep urban sewer shaft.
2010s
Building the practice
- 2010The Gorge 2nd Tunnel high-pressure water conveyance project is completed in Washington State.
- 2011The Brightwater Conveyance System is commissioned in King County, including the largest single-pass fibreglass microtunnel of its time.
- 2012The 15-mile San Vicente Tunnel is commissioned in San Diego County — an early benchmark in performance-based seismic design.
- 2014The Bay Tunnel beneath San Francisco Bay is commissioned, a landmark immersed-tube water supply crossing.
- 2015The New Irvington Tunnel is commissioned in Hayward, California, crossing the active Hayward Fault.
- 2017Waterview Tunnel opens to traffic in Auckland, New Zealand.
- 2019Army Bay Ocean Outfall Replacement breaks the record for the longest pipeline drive ever installed with the Direct Pipe system.
2020s
Global delivery
- 2020The Newtown Creek CSO Storage Tunnel is completed in New York, cutting combined sewer overflows by design.
- 2021The Northgate Link Extension opens for public service in Seattle, Washington.
- 2022The Central Subway opens for public service in San Francisco, California.
- 2022The Central Interceptor is commissioned in Auckland — 15 kilometres of gravity trunk sewer and pump stations.
- 2023North America's largest-diameter curved microtunnelling drive is completed in Calgary, Alberta.
- 2024A deep underground science facility cavern complex is completed in a former mine, with ultra-low vibration design.
- 2026Hoffman Tunnels celebrates more than two decades of underground engineering across four markets, from its head office in München.
